Theresa Moray Crothers
Current location: Northville, MI
Current status: Married, no children
General info: After graduating, I attended EMU for 2 years, then enrolled in Mercy School of Nursing and graduated in 1974. I worked my way through college as a nurse aid in the Burn Unit at St Joe’s, which was part of the U of M Burn Center. I continued to work there as a registered nurse, and eventually became Head Nurse of the unit, with an interim stint in the Surgical ICU at St Joe’s. When St. Joe’s closed the Burn Unit in 1979, I went to work at Chelsea Hospital where we developed a “step-down, rehab” Burn unit, and was there until 1983.
I married Bill Crothers, a Ford Motor Engineer in 1984 and moved to Dearborn. At that time, I left hospital nursing and became a medical auditor, reviewing hospital bills and medical records for accuracy in billing, coding, contract compliance and medical necessity. I was an independent contractor for both hospitals and insurance companies, and I had the flexibility to manage my own schedule. I have been a long-time member and board member, including Past President of my national professional association.
In 1991, we moved closer to Ann Arbor, to Salem Township. We had no children, but I am so blessed to have many nieces and nephews who allow me to be a doting aunt.
We are both retired, and spend part of the winter in Key Largo, FL, where Bill likes to fish. We spend a lot of time in northern Michigan in the summer. I love to travel, hike, play golf, garden, read and do crosswords, and it is a good day when I can complete the NYT Sunday crossword without google!
Favorite memories from St. Thomas years: I am so grateful to have attended St Thomas. I have so many good memories of my years there. Mr. Lawrence as Choral Director helping us to sing the most beautiful rendition of Moon River, basketball games on Friday nights and football on Sunday afternoons, walking to Diroff’s at lunch. We were lucky indeed!
