Betty DeBruyne Lane
Current location: Ypsilanti, MI
Current status: Married, 2 sons, no grandkids, but hopeful
General info: After STHS, I graduated from EMU with a degree in Interior Design. During those college years, I was re-acquainted with Bob Place. We married in 1974, but divorced in 1993. Together we have two amazing sons, Brian (1975) and Sean (1980). I was a stay-at-home mom for many years then went back to work — actually using my degree! I have had several positions in the construction related industry, but am most thankful to have found the current one as a designer for DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen in Ann Arbor. I don’t plan to retire for another couple of years or until they kick me out. At one of the earlier workplaces, I met my wonderful husband, Tom Lane and have been happily married since 1998.
Favorite memories from St. Thomas years: The senior girls retreat and TPing the convent — pretty tame by today’s standards. Also, the fact that some of us have known each other since first grade. Not sure how we got this old this fast!
Anything else you’d like to share? Tom and I like to travel and are slowly working through our bucket list of National Parks. We try to get to Seattle every year or so to visit with “the boys”. Brian owns an IT company and Sean is his Operations Manager. It’s fun to remain the neutral (and proud) mom as I’m hearing both sides of a work story from each of them! Tom and I like road trips, garage sales, and being servants to our two cats. I still like to read and sew (thanks mom and Mrs. McKenna) and spend a lot of time and money on quilting.
